All Things New
Everything in this season of life is new.
Newlyweds. New homeowners. New city. New church. New careers. New family. New friends. New streets. New routes. New routines. New seasons.
It's all new and unfamiliar territory!
As we sat down for New Year's Day dinner, I asked my soon-to-be about his New Year's resolution. He simply said, "To get through 2018 and still love you." I laughed because I was thinking the same thing! We were two weeks away from getting married and six months away from a big move across the country (which involved career changes and homeownership!).
Our last season of life was fun and familiar! We had dated for the last three years and were well invested in the community. We loved our jobs, our people, and our adventures.
As we knew two-thousand eighteen would be a year of change, we began praying for the transition. We knew it would be both great and difficult all at the same time. We began praying for our new house and new neighborhood. We asked God to give us wisdom to determine the right price point for our new house and the best neighborhood. We prayed for new jobs and new friends. We also thanked God for His blessing in those things even though we didn't know exactly how they would turn out.
When it came down to saying goodbye, it was tough! It was hard to leave the ease of our fun and familiar and even harder to say goodbye to our family and friends. Were we ready to go? Not really. Did we know that we needed to go? Yes.
I've learned that timing is everything. Some call it luck, serendipity, coincidence, or even fate. I believe good timing is the Lord's providence and divine plan. So when it's time to go, we go. We don't delay, question, or waste time. We go because we believe God has a plan and purpose for our lives and have seen the Lord's timing prove to be best (whether I initially agreed at the time or not!).
Just before our move, the Lord had graciously made room for transition in our lives. The leadership positions I held at church and within the community were coming to the year-end. New leaders and replacements were appointed to filled the positions. The condo we were renting was being sold when we left and both of our departments at work were about to undergo a big reorganization. As hard as it is to say, the timing was right for us to leave. We left on a high note and waved goodbye to one of life's best chapters.
We loved San Diego for the memories we made and the people we met. We are anxious and excited for what God will do in Atlanta. Please keep us in your prayers as we settle in and adjust to this new life!
